The Magic Of Spring
Spring is my favorite
season of the year.
I love
to watch it happen. I love to watch the trees
bud out
and embrace our
world in their arms.
I
am extending an invitation to everyone to share
the magic
of Spring as it
happens. I hope
every man, woman and child will open their senses
and pay just a little attention each day
to the sights, sounds, smells, touch and tastes
of Spring. I hope you will join me in
welcoming Spring, a most magical season!

PHOTOGRAPH ONE
It was Saturday, February 21, 2004.
As I sat at my computer,
(which is in the basement of our home)
suddenly I stopped doing what I was doing. I was very
quiet and listened. I thought I heard something. It
was
faint, but unmistakable. I listened more closely.
Yes, there it was again. I smiled as I said out loud,
"Birds, the birds are singing!"
And, I ran to get my camera
to take a picture of the first day I heard the birds.
PHOTOGRAPH TWO
It was Friday, March 5, 2004.
Sometime in the dark of night
the master painter had created a beautiful
frosted world.
I opened the door and let the cold wet air
touch my face
and heard the slow drip, drip, drip
of dollops of whipped frosting
fall from the trees.
PHOTOGRAPH THREE
It was Saturday, March 6, 2004.
As I sat at my kitchen table,
I watched as the warmth of the sun
sculpted these ever-changing beauties.
Had I not been watching
I would have missed the transformation of
yesterday's snow
into today's fleeting sculptures.
PHOTOGRAPH FOUR
It was Friday, March 12, 2004.
I was sitting at a red light
coming home from the grocery store
when I saw him flying in the sky.
His red and blue parachute caught my eye
and I said, "Ohhhhhh, he is flying!"
My day, so far, had been ordinary,
getting things done.
And, then I smiled
and my day was no longer ordinary.
PHOTOGRAPH FIVE
It was Thursday, April 1, 2004.
As I drove home from work in the late afternoon,
I saw blue out of the corner of my eye.
I turned toward it and saw spring meeting winter.
"I will watch you lake. I will watch
and hope I get to see you take the last swallow of winter."
PHOTOGRAPH SIX
It was Friday, April 2, 2004.
We walked the path down by the lake,
my daughter, grandson and I.
"Hello," we'd say, with a smile and nod
at each passerby.
It's like a small town down by the lake,
in the springtime by and by.
PHOTOGRAPH SEVEN
It was Monday, April 5, 2004.
I don't know when it happened exactly.
I just know when I visited the lake today,
the ice was gone and white gulls were
flying and swooping.
They made me think about the most
famous seagull of all, Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
And, all of a sudden, I was far away.
PHOTOGRAPH EIGHT
It was Thursday, April 22, 2004.
It was dusk as I left work,
and the events of the day
were becoming shadows in the setting sun.
I hurried to the lake to see the magical splendor
as two skywriters framed the yellow ball in the sky and
gifted us all with a universal kiss and hug.
PHOTOGRAPH NINE
It was Friday, June 25, 2004.
I went outside to touch
the flowers to see if they were dry.
It was then that I saw him.
I saw the dragonfly.
I said, "Please wait, I'll be right back!"
And, wait he did for me,
And let me take his picture for everyone to see.
